Part I MEET My BFF GINNY
This is One of My Best Friend's, Ginny. Ginny & I were in the same stake growing up back in Massachusetts. Ginny was married in 2004 to Ben Hill. Alan & I were married 10 months later. Ben & Ginny have 2 gorgeous little Girls, Jocee & Sophie. Last year she lost her husband, Ben in a plane crash.
No one really tells you that we you get married, that you kinda have to start dating all over again. People you have considered friends up until this point are still you friends except now you have a spouse that has to get along with them too. Plus not to mention if there married it just became more complicated. When we first got married Alan & I went on a ton of "couple dates" to find the "right couple" to hang out with. After many discouraging "dates", I reconnected with Ginny on Myspace and so it began. They were "Our Couple"... We went target shooting, concerts, dinner, the temple, movies, shopping, celebrated birthdays, ect. Our Husbands got along great, there only complaint is that we could & would spend hours on end talking to each other!! haha. Then one day we just kinda stopped talking ... which when we think about it now seems weird and silly however it all makes sense to us now.
Fast forward 3 years later... While cleaning up downstairs, I had the news playing in the background. I could hear them announce there was a single engine plane that had crashed in Provo. Instantly my heart sank and my first thought was of Ben. I immediately ran to the computer to see if the story had been posted on ksl yet. Nothing. Every 5 Minutes I refreshed until I saw the story appear. Finally Ben's name appeared next to the plane crash. Alan & I were beyond disbelief. I felt sick to my stomach for the rest of the evening. Alan had to leave for work a few hours later & the kids had fallen asleep early that night. A blessing because I shortly began sobbing for hours on end which resulted in vomiting. I tossed and turned all night. All I could think of was how this was the worst night of Ginny's life. Extremely sad for the loss of a good friend especially when we saw how close his plane was to the runway. How I wish I knew where she lived & at the same time extreme guilt for loosing contact with them. For years now, Alan has been working nights. And I remember what a hard adjustment it was not having him next to me when I would go to sleep. It took me months to get use to it. In fact, I'm pretty sure, that's why I fall asleep with the tv on now. So naturally the thought of Ginny's first of many nights alone ate me up. I didn't sleep at all in a sense I felt guilty for sleeping when she probably wasn't. Within a week of emails we picked up right where we left off.
Fast forward 1 year... Ginny flew out so that she could visit the crash site on the year mark. I felt extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to go with her for her first time. In something so awful he couldn't have crashed at a more beautiful site. The sun peaked through the clouds creating the most gorgeous rays of sunshine. It was cool enough for a lite coat but warm enough to be able to stand outside for hours. We realize now that in those 3 years we both grew as people. We both become mothers of 2. We grew even more closer to our husbands. We both were able to focus 100% to our family's. Most importantly Ginny had 3 years with Ben.
